trauma persisting beyond direct survivors and having negative effects on subsquent generations
What is self determinantion?
Ability for Aboriginal ad Torres Strait Islanders to freely decide and govern their own political, social, cultural and economic needs and rights
What does holistic refer to?
the understanding that somethings parts are interconnected and can only be referenced as a whole

historical - how colonisation disrupted traditional way of life
political - human rights of all people
social - inequalities relating to access of services and support
cultural - connection to community, culture and country
What are the protective and risk factors of historical determinants?
protective - referendum, land rights and national apology
risk - invasion, wars, genocide and stolen generation
What are the protective and risk factors of political determinants?
protective - treaty, land rights, Indigenous governance and Aboriginal community control (self determination)
risk - legislations enabling dispossession of land, removal of children, assimilation and suppression of culture.

protective - access to services and support
risk - poverty, overcrowded housing, limited access to basics and exposure to violence
What are the protective and risk factors of cultural determinants?
protective - self determination, reconciliation and reclamation of cultural practises
risk - intergenerational trauma, mistreatment, racism and discrimination
