Hook Method
stand behind patient and “hook” under ribcage

Shifting Dullness Test
determines if there is fluid in abdomen; Positive if you have 2 separate lines
Fluid Wave Test
watch for “waving” of stomach
Rebound Tenderness
Palpate deeply and let go, if it is painful, it is indicative of appendicitis
Psoas Sign
have pt. raise right knee which contracts the muscle over appendices, if there is pain in RLQ it is indicating appendicitis
Operator Sign
have pt flex hip and take hip and rotate in and out; positive test is pain in RLQ
What Tests are used to test for appendicitis?
Psoas, Rebound tenderness and operator
Murphys Sign
palpate liver margin while patient takes a deep breath; abnormal is pain on palpation; tests for cholecystitis
Cholecystitis
inflammation of gallbladder
Peptic Ulcer Disease
break in the lining of the stomach
