External Oblique Muscle Action
Compresses abdominal wall;
Bilaterally - Flexes Trunk
Unilaterally - Bends trunk to same side; Rotates Trunk to opposite Side
Internal Oblique Muscle Origin
Thoracolumbar fascial iliac crest between origins of external and transversus; Lateral 2/3 of inguinal ligament
Internal Oblique Muscle Insertion
Inferior border of ribs 9-12
Internal Oblique Muscle Innervation
Anterior rami of T2-L1
Internal Oblique Muscle Action
Compresses abdominal wall;
Bilaterally: flexes trunk
Unilaterally: Bends trunk, rotates trunk to same side
Transverse Abdominis Muscle Origin
Thoracolumbar fascia; medial lip of iliac crest; lateral 1/3 of inguinal ligament; costal cartilages of ribs 7-12
Transverse Abdominis Muscle Insertion
Aponeurosis ending in linea alba; pubic crest and pectineal line
Transverse Abdominis Muscle Inneration
Anterior rami of T7-L1
Rectus Abdominis Muscle Origin
Pubic crest, pubic tubercle and pubic symphysis
