Mechanism of Action
A
Antibody fragment that binds to glycoprotein IIb/IIIa receptors on platelets. Prevents fibrinogen and other procoagulants from activating platelets.

A
- Acute coronary syndrome
- Percutaneous coronary intervention

- Active bleeding
- Recent trauma/surgery
- Serious bleeding disorders
- Thrombocytopenia

Nursing Considerations
A
- Monitor lab tests
- Observe for bleeding
- Watch for hypersensitivity
- Minimize bleeding risk
- Elevate head of bed and keep limb straight when femoral artery access is used.

- Immediately report unusual bleeding
- Do not use other medications or other OTC medications or herbal supplements.
