A6 Flashcards
Which nerve innervates muscles of the face?
Facial Nerve
What are the layers of the SCALP?
Skin Connective Tissue (dense) Aponeurosis Loose areolar Connective tissue Periosteum
What are the muscles of mastication and what is their innervation?
Masseter, Temporalis, Medial Pterygoid, Lateral Pterygoid
They all elevate the mandible to close the mouth
Innervated by CN V3
What is the insertion of the muscles of mastication?
Ramus of the mandible
Temporalis is at the coronoid process of mandible
What does the parotid gland secret?
Serious saliva into oral cavity for lubrication and food breakdown
Where does the Perot is gland open in the oral cavity?
Stensen duct near the second upper molar
What are the anatomical borders of the parotid region?
Superior - zygomatic arch
Inferior - inferior border of the mandible
Anterior - Masseter
Posterior - external ear and sternocleidomastoid
Which nerve innervates the parotid gland?
Glossopharyngeal
Which vessels and nerves pass through the parotid gland?
Facial - give off five branches anteromedially
External carotid artery - goes up through gland
And gives off the posterior auricular artery
Retromandibular vein - forms in the gland by superficial temporal and maxillary veins
What are the vascular supply to and from the face?
External Carotid Artery
Retromandibular to internal and external jugular vein
Facial (motor) Trigeminal (sensory)
What is the tongue epithelium?
Stratified squamous
What does the thyroid develop from in the tongue?
Cecum foramen
Which nerves innervate the tongue?
Hypoglossal and Vagus (motor)
Facial (ant. 2/3) and Gloasopharyngeal (post. 1/3)
Name the intrinsic tongue muscles?
Superior and inferior longitudinal, transverse and vertical
What are the extrinsic muscles of the tongue?
Genioglossus, hyoglossus, styloglossus, and palatoglossus
