A&P 4 lab slides Flashcards
Mechanical stage of the microscope
is the platform
Mechanical stage clips of the microscope
hold the slide in place on the stage
Mechanical stage knobs of the microscope
allow you to move your slide while you are viewing it if the slide is properly clipped in with the stage clips
Ocular (eyepiece) Lens
where your eyes will be
What are the objective Lenses on the rotating nose piece
Scanning 4x
Low 10x
High Dry 40x
Oil immersion 100x
Coarse focus adjustment of the microscope
larger of the two focus knobs. It is only used with the lower power objective to get the specimen approximately in focus
Fine focus adjustment
smaller of the two focus knobs. After using the coarse focus at low power, then rotate to a higher power objective
Condenser
focuses the light onto the slide
Condenser adjustment knob
controls how far the condenser is from the slide
Iris diaphragm of the condenser
controls the amount of light coming from the light source below the slide
Total Power of magnification
is calculated by using the following formula: Total Magnification = (eyepiece magnifying factor) X (objective magnifying factor)
Resolution
the shortest distance between two points that can still be distinguished as visually separate
Effect of changing to higher power on
field of view
amount of light
depth of focus
