A&P 2 lab slides Flashcards
Solution
A liquid containing a dissolved substance
Solvent
Substance (molecule) with the ability to dissolve other substances (solutes) to form a solution
Solute
substance being dissolved
Suspension
a heterogeneous mixture in which the solute particles do not dissolve but get suspended throughout the bulk of the medium
Colloid
A mixture in which very small particles of one substance are distributed evenly throughout another substance
pH
The measure of how acidic, neutral or alkaline something is
Acidic pH
Less than 7
Alkaline (Basic) pH
Greater than 7
Neutral pH
Exactly equal to 7
Buffer
maintains the pH making it stable within a certain range
Litmus paper
a pH indicator that changes color
Human body pH
7.35 to 7.45
Human body temperature in Celsius and Fahrenheit
37 C or 98.6 F
Boiling point of water in Celsius and Fahrenheit
100 C or 212 F
Freezing point of water in Celsius and Fahrenheit
0 C or 32 F
Independent variable
the parameter that is pre-determined / already known before conducting the experiment
Dependent variable
The parameter that is being measured
Control variables
The parameter or parameters that are maintained the same between different trials of an experiment
Experimental Control
an experiment in which all variable factors have been kept constant and which is used as a standard of comparison to the experimental component in a controlled experiment
