9.4 Regulation Of Contraction Flashcards
1
Q
Calcium is sometimes referred to as a
A
Second messenger. Powerful intracellular signal
2
Q
Intracellular calcium levels in most cells is
A
Very low, released when stimulated by AP
3
Q
Calcium stored in
A
Organelle Sarcoplasmic reticulum
4
Q
Ca2+ ATPase
A
Uses ATP to pump Ca into the sarcoplasmic reticulum
5
Q
Tropomyosin covers what and does what
A
Covers actin preventing myosin from binding
6
Q
Troponin binds to what and does what
A
Calcium ions causing Tropomyosin to move over
7
Q
Binds, releases, reaches, grabs

Q
Summary of contraction
A
- somatic motor neuron has AP that reaches terminal
- NT ACH released into cleft
- muscle fiber receptors bind ACH
- Sodium channel opens allowing depolarization EPSP
- AP reaches Sarcoplasmic reticulum releasing Calcium into cell (Ca AtPase attempting to bring Ca back in)
- Ca causes troponin/Tropomyosin complex to shift allowing myosin to reach actin
- space between Z-discs decreases (sarcomere shrinks)
- myofibril contracts
- fiber contracts
- fascicles contract
- muscle contracts
