10.2 Heart Anatomy Flashcards
MAP
Mean arterial pressure
Bottom point of heart
Apex
Top of the heart is the
Base
Left side heart is
Larger
Diaphragm separates
Thoracic and abdominal cavity
two circuits to circulation
Pulmonary circuit
Systemic circuit
Pulmonary circuit
O2 poor blood to lungs via arteries
O2 rich blood to heart via veins
Systemic circuit
O2 rich blood to body via arteries
O2 poor blood to heart via veins
AV
Atrioventricular valves
Bicuspid aka
Mitral valve
Valves leaving heart
Aortic and Pulmonary semilunar valves
Papillary muscles
Connected to the valves, when contracted they pull on chordae tendineae. Preventing back flow
80% of blood flowing in atria
Automatically flows into right ventricle.
The last 20% is when atria contracts
Ventricles contract, AV valves close
First heart sound
Opening of semilunar valves, blood enters arteries then:
Ventricles relax, close semilunar valves causing second heart sound.
