Branches of Descending Aorta
Supplies blood to everything in the thorax + walls
except for the heart
heart gets its blood supply from the coronary arteries
Great veins
Function of the internal jugular veins
return of venous blood from head & neck
What do the coronary veins do?
Accompany corresponding
coronary arteries
• Drain into the right atrium
at coronary sinus
Characteristics of the azygos vein
associated with vertebrae column at the back of the thorax
slightly on the right
descending returns to SVC
Arch over the root of right lung
quite posterior
arches forward towards front of thorax
Variable patterns
• Receive blood return from
Thoracic walls and Pericardium Lungs, trachea, bronchi and Esophagus
