9.2 Flashcards
Define Simple diffusion
They are molecules that move over the lipid bio-layer. It is also semi-permeable.
Define Facilitated diffusion
Molecules that move with the help of proteins. Move from high to low concentration, no energy required, specific to protein.
Define Osmosis
Diffusion of water across a semi-permeable membrane to dilute higher solute concentrations.
Define Hypertonic
It has a higher percent of solute but a lower percent of water.
Define Hypotonic
It has a lower percent of solute but a higher percent of water.
Define Isotonic
It has an equal percent of solute.
Active Transport
It is when cell needs move move against the concentration. It changes it shape. It uses a protein “pump.” It cost energy in the form of ATP.
Define Endocytosis
How larger molecules enter the cell.
Define Exocytosis
How larger molecules leave the cell.
What are properties and structure of phospholipids?
It has a hydrophilic top and it attract water molecules. It has a hydrophobic bottom and they do not attract water molecules..
What are parts of the cell membrane?
It is form from phospholipid bilayers, proteins (which allow for hydrophilic molecules to get into the cell) , Cholesterol, Cytoskelton fragments, Glycoprotein, Glycolipids, Integral and peripheral membrane protein.
