7.4 Flashcards
Why do cells need to carry out cellular respiration
To convert energy for building of proteins.
Glycolysis
It uses glucose as an input.
Krebs Cycle
Occurs in the mitochondria
Electron transport chain
Makes most of the ATP produce by cellular respiration.
Explain why mitochondria are often called the powerhouse of the cell.
It is where most of the ATP is produced.
Glucose
We eat food, then digest the food, it goes into our bloodstream, finally reach the cell.
Oxygen
From breathing, then to the blood, and the into the cell.
ADP+P
Break down of ATP (cycle in cells)
The…….oxidation of glucose release energy used to make ATP.
Gradual
Glycolysis means
Glucose breakdown
How many of each molecule do you start with in glycolysis?
1 glucose, 2 ADP, and 2 NAD+.
How many products do you end with at the end of Glycolysis.
2 pyruvate, 2 ATP, and 2 NADH
Where does glycolysis happen?
In the cytoplasm
What are the reactions in the Link reaction?
2 pyruvate, 2 CoA, 2 NAD+
What are the products of the link chain?
2 Acetyl-CoA, 2 Carbon Dioxide, 2 NADH
Keen cycle will repeat …. Per glucose molecule
Twice
What are the reactants in the kerb cycle?
2 Acetyl-CoA, 2 ADP, 2, FAD, 6 NAD+ for both times
What are the products of the kreb cycle
4 carbon dioxide, 6 NADH, 2 ATP, 2FADH2
As elections moved across the chain, what is move across the membrane?
Hydrogen ion
Hydrogen ions flow from
High concentration to low concentration.
How much ATP is made in the Electron transport chain?
About 30-34
Why is the intermembrane called intermembrane?
The intermembrane is between the inner and outer membrane.
What process of cellular respiration keeps going without oxygen
Glycolysis
What do we do if we can’t use oxygen in cellular respiration
We do fermentation.
What are the two types of fermentation?
Alcoholic and Lactic Acid
Alcoholic Fermentation
It is in bread beer, and wine. It mostly bacteria and yeast. Dead end process at 12% ethanol kill yeast. Can’t reverse the reaction
Lactic Acid
Cheese and anaerboic exersise. Animals, some fun guy (fungi). Reversible process by having lactate is converent back into pyruvated by liver.
