A
Flat film may be normal early in course, so abd U/S is diagnostic.

When is the peak incidence of intussusception (age and season)?
A
- 2-12 months of age
- Summer and middle of winter

A
- Air or barium enema can be used to diagnose and treat.
- If not successful, surgery.

The etiology of intussusception is unknown, but what kind of bowel changes occur?

- Invagination of bowel proximal to Ileocecal valve.
- Ileum telescopes into ascending colon, causing edema, vascular compromise, and partial or total obstruction.
