9. EU ATM - AD Control Service & Runway In Use Flashcards
What is Aerodrome Traffic? (1)
All traffic on the manoeuvring area of an aerodrome and all aircraft flying in the vicinity of an aerodrome
NOTE: An aircraft is in the vicinity of an aerodrome when it is in, entering or leaving an aerodrome traffic circuit
What is Air Traffic? (1)
All aircraft in flight or operating on the manoeuvring area of an aerodrome
What are the functions of Aerodrome Control Towers? (5)
Aerodrome Control shall issue information and instructions to aircraft under its control to achieve a safe, orderly and expeditious flow of air traffic with the objective of preventing collisions between:
- Aircraft that are Aerodrome traffic
- Aircraft operating on manoeuvring area
- Aircraft landing and taking off
- Aircraft and vehicles operating on the manoeuvring area
The Aerodrome controller shall maintain a
continuous watch on… (2)
- All flight operations on and in the vicinity of an aerodrome
- Vehicles and personnel on the manoeuvring area
Functions within an Aerodrome Control Tower (3)
Ground Controller
Normally responsible for traffic on the manoeuvring area with the exception of runways
Aerodrome Controller
Normally responsible for operations on the runway and aircraft flying within the area of responsibility of the aerodrome control tower
Clearance delivery position
Normally responsible for delivery of start-up and ATC clearances to departing IFR flights
When is the Downwind call made? (1)
Abeam the upwind end of the runway
Alerting service criteria
What factors may determine the Runway in use? (5)
- Surface wind speed and direction
- Aerodrome traffic circuits
- Length of runways
- Approach and landing aids available
- Noise abatement purposes
Where is final? (1)
Inside 4nm
When shall Noise abatement not be a determining factor in runway nomination? (4)
- Windshear has been reported or forecast
- Thunderstorms are expected to affect the approach or departure areas
- For take-off when the visibility is <1900m (Approx. 1Nm)
- Gusts exceeding 15kts or tailwind gusts exceeding 5 kts
