24. EU EQPS - Safety Systems Flashcards
What is ASMGCS? (2)
Advanced Surface Movement Guidance and Control Systems
Provides routing, guidance and surveillance for the control of aircraft and vehicles in order to maintain the declared surface movement rate under all weather conditions while maintaining the required level of safety
4 levels of ASMGCS (4)
- Surveillance
- Planning / routing
- Control
- Guidance
ASMGCS Level 1 (Improved Surveillance)
- Covers the manoeuvring area for ground vehicles and movement area for aircraft
- The procedures concern identification and the issuance of ATC instructions and clearances
- Controllers are given traffic position and identity information
ASMGCS Level 2 (Surveillance & Safety nets)
- Safety nets protect runways and designated areas and the associated procedures
- Alerts are generated in the case of all vehicles on runways and any incursion of aircraft onto designated restricted areas
ASMGCS Level 3 (Conflict Detection)
Detects conflicts on the movement area as well as improved guidance and planning information for controllers
ASMGCS Level 4 (Conflict resolution, Automatic Planning and Guidance)
Provides resolutions for all conflicts and automatic planning and guidance for both pilots and controllers
What is GPWS? (3)
GPWS - Ground Proximity Warning System
- Helps prevent Controlled Flight Into Terrain (CFIT) accidents
- Limited to looking vertically downwards only
- No forward-looking capability
What is SMR? (2)
SMR - Surface Movement Radar
Used during low visibility and hours of darkness
when aerodrome traffic cannot be seen
What are the uses of SMR? (7)
- To monitor the movements of aircraft and vehicles on the manoeuvring area
- To provide advice and assistance for the safe and efficient movement of aircraft and vehicles on the manoeuvring area
- Determining that a runway is clear of aircraft and vehicles
- To ensure departing aircraft lined up on correct runway
- To monitor traffic in order to facilitate switching of taxi lighting
- To Monitor and assist emergency services
- To ascertain aircraft have commenced take-off run
