Responsibility for Terrain clearance (4)

A
  • Controllers have no responsibility for the terrain clearance of VFR or SVFR flights
  • Approach Control (APC) is responsible for terrain clearance of IFR flights inside CAS
  • Pilots are ultimately responsible for terrain clearance in class F and G airspace
  • Controllers have no responsibility for the terrain clearance of IFR aircraft making a visual approach (pilot must be visual with the surface) though APC may allocate levels to ensure separation from other IFR flights
