What is the ATIS? (10)
A
ATIS - Automatic Terminal Information Service
- Information to help pilot make decisions about his approach to land or take-off
- Message should not exceed 30 seconds where
practicable - Enables reduced RTF loading
- Can be either Departure or Departure/Arrival ATIS (greater frequency protection required)
- Messages consecutively coded using phonetic alphabet
- Rapid weather changes given direct through ATC
- ATCOs must obtain readback of pressure settings
- Pilots to acknowledge ATIS receipt
- If non-current letter given details to be passed by ATC

- Any aircraft, vehicle or personnel on or near the manoeuvring area
- Traffic operating in the vicinity of the aerodrome
