8m Flashcards
What is speed ?
how much distance an object can travel in a unit of time
What is meant to be constant speed
Speed does not change as it’s moving
How do you measure speed
you measure the time it takes an object to travel a certain distance then use speed=distance (divide) time
what is distance time graph
a graph that shows how the distqnce an object changes from a staring position
what does a straight/diagnol line represent on a time graph
a constant speed
how do you know id an object is travelling faster on a distance time graph?
the slope is steeperr
what does a flat line represent
no movement so stationary
what is meant by average speed
the total distance traveled by the object divided by the time to cover that distance
what is acceleration
when an object gains speed over time
what is deceleration
when an object loses speed over time
what is drag
drag is force that opposes foward motion
what type of force is drag
a contact force
what causes drag
when an object collides with water or air particles and the particles push against the object producing drag
what is the link between drag and speed
The faster the object travels the more drag it experiences
what is streamlining
changing the shape of an object to reduce drag
