Common in spoken Korean
말하다
말해 봤자 even if you say that, even if you speak
첮 to look and to find
찾아 봤자 even if you look for something or even if you find something
Following clause would probably be there’s no use, it work or you can’t, get the desired result
Obviously many other ways to say
But those are a little formal and less intense of a nuance.
After you say 봤자 it’s expected there will be something that doesn’t work out, but to emphasize you can/should use words like
소용없 it won’t help, it’s useless
안 되 won’t work, can’t do it, forget it
시간 낭비예요 waste of time
Even if you stay here, it is a waste of time.
1/2
Even if you cry, it will not help.
2/2 or can just add a negative phrase using 안 or 못
Even if you leave now, you cannot get there in time. (With 못)
Even if you go, it will be a waste of your time.
Even if you talk (to them), it will be of no use.
The meaning is still clear without
So a lot of people just drop it and add 이에요/예요 after 봤자
There is no use/result in trying to do it.
가 봤자예요 even if you go there is no use

Even if you pretend you do not know, I already know (am knowing) all about it.
봤자 can be replaced with
어/아/여 봐야 but CANNOT be used with 이다
Even if you stay here, it is a waste of time.
