#7 Flashcards
Illusion Corrective Action
Visual references to reliable fixed points on the ground, Glide slope lights and the flight instruments
Types of Fatigue
Chronic (prolonged acute fatigue that keeps you exhausted for a long time), Acute (Short term fatigue and makes you exhausted for a short time, long time Acute fatigue is Chronic Fatigue)
NOTAM Types
NOTAM Distant, NOTAM Local, Flight Data Center (FDC) NOTAM
Coriolis Illusion
The illusion of rotation or movement in an entirely different axis, caused by an abrupt head movement, while in a prolonged constant-rate turn that has ceased to stimulate the brain’s motion sensing system.
Graveyard Spin
After being in a spin for a long time your inner canals adjust to the position and get used to it, after realizing you’re in a spin you’re body gives the illusion you are flying backwards
Somatogravic Illusion
A rapid acceleration during takeoff can create the illusion of being in a nose up attitude.
Inversion Illusion
The feeling that the aircraft is tumbling backwards, caused by an abrupt change from climb to straight-and-level flight while in situations lacking visual reference.
Elevator Illusion
An abrupt upward vertical acceleration can stimulate the otolith organs to create the illusion of being in a climb. (Updraft feels like climb)
False Horizon
Inaccurate visual information for aligning the aircraft, caused by various natural and geometric formations that disorient the pilot from the actual horizon.
Autokinesis
Optical illusion in which a pinpoint of light shining in complete darkness appears to move about.
