6A: RLD Flashcards
What are the first two questions you should ask when creating a treatment plan for RLD?
- Is the condition reversible
- What is the natural course and prognosis
What is the goal for treatment of all RLD conditions?
Assist in pulmonary efficiency to increase functional endurance
What are examples of treatment interventions for RLD?
- Positioning
- Bronchial hygiene
- Rib cage support
- Pain management
- Muscle training
- Aerobic conditioning
- Energy conservation
What is the CRQ?
Chronic Respiratory Disease Questionnaire - assesses QOL and activities that induce SOB
What are the five steps of administering the CRQ?
- Ask pt for 5 activities that make them feel SOB
- Yes/no if 26 activities make them feel SOB in the past two weeks
- Narrow list top 5 provocative
- Grade level of SOB
- Other QOL questions
How will the pt’s score on the CRQ change as they show improvement?
Score will go up
What is the BDI and TDI?
DBI = Baseline Dyspnea Index
TDI = Transitional Dyspnea Index
What are the three domains for the BDI and TDI?
- Functional impairment
- Magnitude of task
- Magnitude of effort
What is the score range of the DBI and TDI and what does it indicate?
0-12, lower score indicates more severe dyspnea
What are the three interventions for pneumothorax?
- Chest tube
- Deep breathing and sequencing
- Activity and mobilization if stable
What is the purpose of a chest tube?
Re-establish intrathoracic cavity pressure following pneumothorax
What should you work to maintain when there are pulmonary issues from muscular weakness?
- Upright posture with positioning assistance
- Strengthening
What are additional interventions for pulmonary impairments due to muscle weakness?
- Assisted coughing
- Deep breathing
- Postural drainage with percussion
- Corset or abdominal binder
- General conditioning
What are five interventions for pulmonary issues due to bony changes?
- Positioning to increased ability for lungs to expand
- Deep breathing
- Thoracic mobility
- Splinting for pain
- Functional endurance
