4. Cardiac Rehab Flashcards
What is cardiopulmonary physical therapy?
Examination, assessment, and intervention of the pt with cardiovascular or pulmonary impairments. It involves primary or secondary pathology or risk factors
What are the three goals of cardiopulmonary PT?
- Reverse risk factors, treatable pathologies, CAD
- Prevent risk factors
- Minimize chronic conditions and loss of function
What is part of your observation during cardiac evaluation?
Skin color, posture in relation to thoracic cage, overall appearance
Why is BMI relevant to cardiac rehab?
In combination with waist size is a good predictor of CAD
What are the 7 contraindications for exercise?
- Unstable angina
- Resting HR > 120
- Resting SBP > 200
- DBP < 60 or > 100
- EKG findings
- Blood glucose
- Significant medical problems
What EKG findings are contraindications for exercise?
- Atrial or ventricular tachycardia
- Frequent PVCs
- Multi-focal PVCs
- PVCs which increase with exercise
- Resting ST segment depression of > 2mm
- 3rd degree heart block
What are the 5 signs to stop early mobilization of high-risk patients?
- Development of serious arrhythmias
- Drop in BP > 20mm
- Rapid rise in BP over 220
- Signs of intolerance to activity
- HR rise of > 20 bpm during phase I
What are the three phases of cardiac rehab?
Phase I: inpatient-acute
Phase II: outpatient
Phase III: maintenance
