6.4 Acid Deposition Flashcards
Acid Deposition
forms of precipitation that are unusually acidic typically as a result to human excreted chemicals in the atmosphere
Wet Deposition
pollutants that travel long distances by dissolving into the moisture in the atmosphere and getting carried away by the winds
Dry Deposition
pollutants that fall close to their source (these are typically primary pollutants)
How are nitrogen oxides formed
when nitrogen and oxygen react together inside car engines due to the high temperatures
What pollutants create acid rain
sulfur dioxide and nitrogen oxides
Lichen
can be a bioindicator of air pollution as they derive most of their essential nutrients from the atmosphere rather than the soil. They are also able to react to pollutants year round
Fine Particles
airborne particles that created by emissions and cause damage and health issues to nearby areas
