ensure cold chain principles are adhered to
implement temperature monitoring process to include twice daily checks
Indications and contraindications
screen each pt prior to vaccines
ensure contraindications are documented in health record
all persons administering vaccines will have training on the following
vaccine storage and handling vaccine characteristics recommended vaccine schedules patient screening contraindications vaccine administration techniques treatment and reporting of adverse events vaccine benefit and risk communication documentation and management
Adverse events
epinephrine must be properly stored and readily available
report all adverse events to Vaccine Adverse Event Reporting System (VAERS)
Short notice deployment
administer the first dose
make arrangements to receive additional doses to complete series
yellow fever imms - within 10 days of notification where yellow fever is endemic
Vaccine information sheet
VIS
all personnel must be provided with one
prepared by US department of Health and Human services, CDC
Documenting allergies and hypersensitivities
screen all pts for allergies, health status, previous adverse reactions
refer to appropriate medical specialist for eval
Routine pregnancy tests for vaccines
NOT REQUIRED
** live vaccines are not to be routinely administered to any pregnant female
Who dictates the types of healthcare personnel and their level of certification in CPR and life support
