What were the key ideas of Humanism?

A
  • Wanted to rediscover the true original meanings from Greek and Latin texts,
  • Did support Catholicism but wanted to give people freewill and they wanted to purify religious texts to get rid of catholic influence to give power to the people
  • Some humanists were in high positions in Oxford University

How did education develop under Henry VII?

A
  • 53 grammar schools were founded during his reign to educate more people
  • Primarily school was for those that could afford it and throughout his reign more humanistic approaches to teaching were taken instead of just using Latin
  • Cambridge university benefitted during his reign because of the generosity of Lady Margaret Beuford (Henry’s mum) who founded collages across the university
