How many roots does the upper 3rd premolar have?
2 or 3
How do you do a routine or closed extraction?
Cut epithelial extraction, section crown to single roots, luxate, extract
How do you do a surgical or open extraction?
Raise flap, partially remove buccal bone, luxate, extract
Which teeth do you always use surgical extraction for?
All canine teeth in dog, all lower canines in cat
In which teeth can you do an open extraction if the closed approach fails?
Fractured or retained roots, ankylosed root, excessive root curvature
How should you use an elevator?
NOT like a level - twist instead
What should you do instead of pulling a tooth?
Grip it and rotate it around the long axis
Why are cats teeth harder to extract?
Bulge at end of root
What are cat roots like compared to dogs?
Longer and thinner (need less force to break!)
What do you have to take care to avoid when using elevators in cats?
The eyes and brain!!
What should you do with bony projections in a socket?
Remove
What is the best way to cover bone?
Blood clots best, but don’t leave uncovered
What suture material do you use in dentals?
Absorbable monofilament
