How can you treat gingival hyperplasia?
Re-contour to proper anatomical form, reduce pocketing, use electrocautery
Which breed especially gets gingival hyperplasia?
Boxers
How likely is recurrence of gingival hyperplasia?
Highly, especially with gingivitis
What is the correct name for a fibrous epulis?
Focal fibrous hyperplasia
What is the correct name for a ossifying epulis?
Peripheral odontogenic fibroma
What is the correct name for a acanthomatous epulis?
Amelioblastoma or basal cell carcinoma

Infection beyond tooth socket, stomatitis, soft tissue trauma, complicated jaw fracture, healing impairment e.g. steroids
What are antibiotics NOT for the treatment of?
Gingivitis or periodontal disease, reduce inflammation, reduce bacteraemia
What conditions increase bacteraemia in dental disease?
More pocketing and more mobility
What is “dry socket”?
Alveolar osteitis, when blood clot is lost day 2 or 3 post-extraction so exposed bone gets osteitis
What are clinical signs of dry socket?
Painful, pyrexic
How do you treat dry socket?
Antibiotics as if treating osteomyelitis
