How can you prep the mouth to reduce bacterial load?
Rinse with chlorhex, then brush as doesn’t reach below gumline
What is the time limit for scaling a tooth with tartar?
None
Why can’t you use a scaler over 2mm below the gumline?
Water can’t access to cool it
At 2mm below the gumline, what is the maximum time you can use a scaler for?
2 seconds
What should you use instead for subgingival scaling?
Curette
What order do you do things in your dental?
Scaling, extractions, then polish and subgingival scaling
Why should you not use rotosonic scalers?
Damage enamel
Can polishers reach subgingiva?
Yes, slightly
Is fluoride beneficial?
Not for vets
What is the advantage of antibiotics for dentals?
Reduce inflammation and number of bacteria pre-treatment, promote healing and resolution post-treatment
How long are the benefits of scale and polish?
Short-lived - owner must continue but just allows it to be more effective
What are the benefits of gingivectomy?
Removes hyperplasia, prevents false pocketing
