What are three consequences of chronic peri-apical infection?
Granuloma, apical resorption, draining fistula
What are three consequences of acute peri-apical infection?
Cellulitis, osteomyelitis, abscess
In what four circumstances are root canals not possible?
Periodontal disease, resorptive lesion, fracture extends sublingually, immature tooth root
WHich are the only teeth you can do a root canal on in cats?
Canines
What happens if you extract the upper canine in cats?
Lip collapses
How do you get a slab fracture?
Chewing things harder than teeth e.g. bone, hooves, nylabones
What does chewing a tennis ball do to teeth?
SLow wear, exposes brown spot due to staining
Why is there no pulp exposure from slow wear?
Pulp retreats if wear is slow enough
What are four causes of necrotic pulp?
Pulp exposure, microfracture, acute pulpitis, stenotic root canal
Why does acute pulpitis give necrotic pulp?
Damages blood supply
In what species are cavies rare?
Cats
Who usually gets cavies?
Over 10kg dogs, esp Rottweilers and Weimaraners
How do you check for cavies?
Use a probe in central pit of tooth
