5.6 3 Reactions of acids Flashcards
all
salt form
acids with metals
salt and hydrogen
metals must be reactive enough
solution is salt is soluble
neutralisation as h+ ions removed from solution
redox transfer of electrons from metals to the h+ ions
acids with metal oxides and insoluble metal hydroxides
metal oxide +acid=salt +water
metal hydroxide +acid=salt+water
reactivity doesn’t matter as it is the prescence of metal ions
observation likely the formation of solution
neuralsation h+ ions react with 02- or OH-
not redox no change in oxidation numbers of any of the species
acids with alkalis
metal hydroxide +acids =salt+water titration no visible changes thermometer temp raised can be noted ionc is H+ + OH-=H2O IN AQ Neutralisation H+ react with OH- ions not redox no change in oxidation numbers
acids with carbonates
metal carbonate +acid=salt +water +carbon dioxide
if salt formed soluble than solution forms
neutralisation h+ react with CO32-
NOT REDOX
Hydrogencarbonates
react same way as carbonates of HC03-
Test for carbonate of hydrogen carbonate ions
add aqueous acid and test gas given off with limewater
