Niche:
Describes an organism’s use of resources and its functional role in a community; a summary of the organism
The 2 types of tolerance ranges:
- Specialist - panda bear
- Generalist - rats
Resource Partitioning:
Species divide resources they use in common by specializing in different ways
Predation:
The process of a predator capturing and eating prey
3 types of species interaction:
- Predation
- Paratism
- Herbivory
Coevolution:
The process by which 2 species evolve in response to each other (arms race)
Paratism:
The relationship in which one organism, the parasite, depends on another, the host, for nourishment or some other benefit; the host is harmed
Symbiosis:
A long-lasting and physically close rela-tionship in which at least one organism benefits
Herbivory:
The interaction in which an animal feeds on a plant
Mutualism:
A relationship in which two or more species benefit
Commensalism:
Commensalism, describes a relationship in which one species benefits and the other is unaffected
