4C - Axial muscles Flashcards
dorsal root ganglion
houses cell body for sensory neurons
dorsal rami
serve the skin and muscles of the posterior trunk
ventral rami
innervate nearly everything in the body, form peripheral nerves via plexuses
posterior rami (dorsal)
deliver motor fibres to skeletal muscles along vertebral column and carry sensation form overlying skin
erector spinae
iliocostalis, longissimus, spinalis
“I Like Standing”
way to remember erector spinal muscles, Iliocostalis Longissimus Spinalis
splenius cervicis
spinous processes of T3-T6
capitus
near the head
Iliocostalis
extend and laterally flex the vertebral column
Longissimus
extends vertebral column
Spinalus
extends vertebral column
transverso-spinal group
semispainalis, rotatores, multifidus
semispinalis
extends neck and vertebral column
rotatores
dorsal rami of spinal nerves
multifidus
extends and rotates vertebral column
intercostal nerves
supply muscles of the ribs, anterolateral thorax, and abdominal wall
intercostal muscles
muscles which move the rib cage during breathing
internal intercostal muscles
lowers the rib cage during forced expiration
innermost intercostal muscles
deepest layers of internal intercostal muscles
diaphragm
large, flat muscle at the bottom of the chest cavity that helps with breathing
phrenic nerve
innervates the diaphragm
aortic hiatus
opening in diaphragm for the aorta to pass from the heart to the abdomen
external intercostal muscles
a muscle that raises the rib cage, decreasing pressure inside the chest cavity
external oblique
compress abdomen, flex vertebral column, rotate vertebral column and lateral bending
internal oblique
compress abdomen, flex vertebral column, rotate vertebral column and lateral bending
rectus abdominus
compress abdomen, flex vertebral column
transversus abdominus
compresses abdomen
inguinal ligament
ligament extending from pubic bone to anterior superior iliac spine, forming lower border of abdomen
linea alba
midline tendinous seam joining the abdominal muscles
linea semilunaris
division of the linea alba into two sheet of aponeurosis
aponeurosis
strong sheet of tissue that acts asa tendon to attach muscles to bone
arcuate line
a ridge of bone that runs inferiorly and anteriorly from the auricular surface
diastatsis recti
midline longitudinal ridge in the abdomen, a separation of abdominal rectus muscles, common during or following pregnancy
