4.3- Innervation and Vessels of the Lower Limb Flashcards
Is the dorsal venous arch deep or superficial? What does it drain into?
Dorsal venous arch is a superficial vein.
The lateral side drains into the small saphenous vein, which passes through the fascia lata to drain into the popliteal vein.
The medial side drains into the great saphenous vein, which passes through the fascia lata to drain into the femoral vein.
Where is the femoral artery, where does originate from and drain into, and how many deep veins / venae comitantes does it have?
Anterior thigh
Originates from the external iliac artery after it passes under the inguinal ligament into the femoral triangle. Drains into the popliteal artery after passing under sartorius, through the adductor canal, then through the adductor hiatus of the adductor magnus.
One vein, which is drained into by the great saphenous arch carrying blood from the medial side of the dorsal venous arch.
Where is the popliteal artery, where does originate from and drain into, and how many deep veins / venae comitantes does it have?
Posterior to the knee, originates from the femoral artery and drains into the anterior tibial artery and posterior tibial artery, has one venae comitante
Outline the changes in arteries when moving distally down the leg. Include the number of venae comitantes and whether any superficial veins drain into these venae comitantes.
See Notes “4.4 Extra: Innervation and Vessels of the Lower Limb”
What does the femoral nerve innervate? Outline its changes moving distally along the leg. Note both cutaneous and deep innervations.
What are the main movements it causes, and list the muscles it innervates?
See Notes “4.4 Extra: Innervation and Vessels of the Lower Limb”
What does the sciatic nerve innervate? Outline its changes moving distally along the leg.
See Notes “4.4 Extra: Innervation and Vessels of the Lower Limb”
What does the obturator nerve innervate? Where can it be found? Note both cutaneous and deep innervations.
See Notes “4.4 Extra: Innervation and Vessels of the Lower Limb”
Match the nerves to the cutaneous regions
Outline the changes in the sciatic nerve moving distally down the leg. Include the different areas each section innervates (both muscles and cutaneous)
