Q

What is the KMT of gases? Give two points

A

Kinetic molecular theory. Regards ideal gases
– Have small particles (atoms/molecules) far apart in relation to their own size
– particles move in rapid, random, straight motion
– collisions r elastic; no loss of energy
– no attractive forces within
– all particles dont have the same KE. The average KE is proportional to temp.

Q

Why does the fixed size of a container increase its pressure?

A

– the faster molecules will collide w/ sides w/ more energy
– more collisions per second
