4.3 - Elecrocardiograms Flashcards
What does the P wave show?
Contraction of the atria. (atrial systole)
What does the QRS wave show?
Contraction of ventricles (ventricular systole)
What does the T wave show?
Relaxation of the ventricles
(diastole)
To measure the length of one heart beat, what should you do?
Measure the distance between P waves between 2 heartbeats.
What is it called if the heart rate drops below 60bpm?
Bradycardia
What is it called if the heart rate increases above 100bpm?
Tachycardia
What is an ectopic heartbeat?
An extra heartbeat that is not part of the hearts usual rhythm.
What is atrial fibrillation?
When irregular waves of excitation pass over the atria this causes the atria to contract randomly and rapidly.
The heart cannot pump blood properly.
