What does an offline/standby UPS do?
If power disappears, it goes from offline mode to online mode and switches back to online when the main power comes back on.
What does a line-interactive UPS do?
Slowly ramps up how much power it uses based off brownouts
What is a brownout?
When the main power voltage takes a dip.
What does an on-line/double-conversion UPS do?
It always runs so that there is no switchover if the main voltage goes out.
What does a surge suppressor do?
Takes additional voltage, usually from spikes, and reroute it to the ground.
