Whats the ovary?
The ovary is where egg cells mature and released
What are mammary glands?
Mammary glands make milk to feed the baby
What are follicles? What do they contain?
Follicles, in the ovary each contain a single immature egg and they also have cells that nourish and protect the developing egg
What’s estrogen?
Estrogen is a female sex hormone that stimulate the mammary glands during pregnancy, it also stimulates milk glands
What is progesterone?
A female sex hormone that stimulates the mammary glands during pregnancy and stimulates the endometrium to prepare for a fertilized egg
What is the menstrual cycle? When does it begin?
The female reproductive cycle that begins during puberty and in each cycle usually a single egg matures and is released
What is menopause?
When menstruation stops
What is ovulation?
The release of a mature egg from the ovary
What is a corpus luteum?
An empty follicle that matures and produces the hormones estrogen and progesterone
What is the oviduct?
Aka the fallopian tube, it transports the egg to the uterus
What is the uterus?
Aka the womb, is an organ that will receive the embryo if the egg is fertilized
Whats endometrium?
The lining of the uterus and it contains nutrients, blood vessels, and mucus and it gives nourishment to the embryo
What is the cervix?
Its the muscular opening between the uterus and the vagina
What is the vagina? Where is the opening?
It receives the penis and sperm during sexual intercourse and it is a birth canal through which a baby comes out
Opening is directly behind the opening of the urethra
What is menstruation?
Its the shedding of the endometrium
