4.2: Evaluate Design, Coordination, and Documentation Methodologies for the Practice Flashcards
Building information modeling (BIM)
A type of architectural documentation which affixes parameters and other data to typical elements of the drawing set, such as doors, walls, and windows.
Project manual
The project manual consists of the written documents created for the purposes of procuring and constructing the work, which can include things such as the instructions to bidders, bid requirements, specifications, etc. The contract drawings, which include things such as plans, sections, elevations, and details, are separate from the project manual.
RFI
RFI stands for request for information. This is a form of documented correspondence between members of the project team and may be submitted to the owner, architect, or contractor. Issues that arise during construction that require clarification should be addressed through the RFI process so that an official log can be referenced later if needed.
Special conditions
Special conditions are used to further extend the supplementary conditions of the contract for construction. Government clients often have special conditions.
Specifications
A type of technical standards documentation which outlines the types of materials, products, and procedures to be utilized in constructing the work.
Work plan
A schedule describing the tasks and milestone dates a person or team must complete on a project.
Which design phase is likely to be shortened when using Building Information Modeling (BIM) on an upcoming project?
Construction Documents. The presumption is that the CD phase is likely to be reduced, while the SD and DD phases are lengthened. BIM allows for sharing of project information throughout all phases of a project. Required greater coordination early on.
Technique to clearly and unambiguously identify the exact models when specifying some site furniture including benches, waste receptacles, and planters.
Include a picture from the manufacturer in the specifications. Including a picture or an illustration in a specification is a good technique for communicating information and getting the desired results. Not only words, but also pictures can be included in specifications. This technique is especially useful for toilet accessories, lighting, and other accessories.
