Affirmative covenant
An agreement compelling a party to some action, such as maintenance of a property.
AHJ
Authority having jurisdiction. This is any state or government department which enforces code compliance on a given project.
Certificate of occupancy (CO)
A document issued by a local jurisdiction which certifies that a building, in whole or in part, complies with code and is suitable for occupancy.
HOA
Homeowners’ association: a governing body that creates and enforces rules for the properties within their jurisdiction.
Public hearings
A meeting for the public to learn about a proposed project and express concerns or ask questions. As a component of both public and private projects, these meetings need to be managed to gain approval for a project.
Request for Services (RFS)
Similar to a Request for Proposal (RFP), but for a project where the work will be ongoing and is undefined. These types of requests are often made by clients for architects to provide services over a period of time, such as facility or campus renovation projects.
