4. Stereochemistry Flashcards
1
Q
what is an isomer
A
same molecules arranged around in a different way e.g. same molecular formulae
2
Q
what is a constitutional isomer
A
atoms are not connected in the same order
3
Q
what is a stereoisomer
A
atoms connected in the same order
4
Q
how to test for superimposable
A
- draw mirror
- rotate original by 180
- if it’s the same image then not an enantiomer
5
Q
what does an enantiomer contain (but doesn’t always work the other way round)
A
a chiral carbon
(chrial carbons don’t always result in enantiomers)
