A
- Intake: intake valve opens and cylinder fills with air
- Compression: air is compressed
- Expansion: compressed air expands, return energy to engine
- Exhaust: piston pushes gasses out the exhaust valve

What is the operation of cylinders and valves in an engine when the Jake Brake is activated?
How does the driver engage it?
A
- (2) Compression: the exhaust valve opens near the end of the cycle and gasses are released into the exhaust system instead of being used by the engine
- Releases the throttle

What is the place called that transmission retarders work?
How does the driver use the transmission retarders?
A
- Retarder housing
- When auto apply is on, releasing the gas pedal will engage the first level, which is about a third
- When the brake is pushed, it engages level two and three as the brakes are pushed

What should I do if it gets too high
A
- A consistent temp of 300 degrees or higher is danger zone
- Turn off auto apply when heat gets concerning
- Turn off transmission retarder when overheating
