4 DNA topoisomerase Flashcards
1
Q
What is DNA topoisomerase
A
An enzyme involved in DNA replication that relaxes supercooled DNA ahead of the replication form so that replication may proceed.
2
Q
How does DNA topoisomerase work
A
It relaxes supercoiled DNA
Unwinds the chromosomes and DNA double helix by creating small, reversible cuts in the DNA. They cut at places that hold too much tension the repair the cut during the process of DNA replication —> cuts the existing DNA strand to make room for the newly synthesised DNA strand
