Cocaine
Binds directly to DAT (high affinity)
Inhibits reuptake of DA, NE, 5-HT
Methylphenidate
Inhibits DAT
Used to treat ADHD and narcolepsy (affects sleep and wake)
Produces 3-4x increase in DA and NE in striatum and PFC
Common Side Effects of Methylphenidate
Nervousness Agitation Insomnia Anxiety Loss of Appeptite
Ritalin vs. Cocaine
Ritalin has much lower affinity for DAT- slower response= less addictive
But at high doses Ritalin can have similar effects as cocaine
MAO-A
Breaks down all monoamines
MAO-B
Only breaks down DA
Fenfluramine
Appetite suppresant
Blocks both VMAT 2 and SERT
MDMA
Ecstasy
Blocks both VMAT 2 and SERt
Also reverses flow of SERT (increases release)
Chlorpromazine
First effective antipsychotic for treatment of SCA
Imipramine
Discovered during search for SCZ treatment
Found to improve severe depression, not psychosis

Inhibitor of NE and 5-HT reuptake
Sumatriptan
