4-5: Chem & Bio Decontamination Flashcards
What is the purpose of decontamination?
reduce spread of contaminants and the quantity/toxicity
Steps in the Collective Protection System (CPS) decon station
Gross Decon Area (GDA-remove heavy equipment), Outer Clothing Undressing Area (OCUA-take off all clothing except inner garments), Inner Clothing Undressing Area (ICUA-take off inner garments), Shower Area (SA), Contamination Purge Lock (CPL)
What are the steps in the casualty CPS station?
Liquid Hazard Area (LHA-like OCUA), Vapor Hazard Area (VHA- like ICUA, hose down victim), Casualty Air Lock (CAL), Ambulatory Air Lock (AAL)
If a ship does not have CPS, it can have what other categories of decon stations?
Three Compartment Conventional (3CC-very similar to CPS without air lock), Sanitary Space Conventional (SCC), Other Configurations of Conventional
How are injured personnel passed through CPS compartments?
On rollers
What are the conventional decontamination stations used?
3CC, SSC, OOC
What does the decontamination station team consist of?
team leader, 1-2 assistants in OCUA and ICUA, station operators, corpsman
What is calcium hypochlorite used for?
clean IPE and weather decks
What is the purpose of the Contamination Control Area (CCA)? What type of decon stations include a CCA?
remove IPE/wet weather gear, SSC/OOC
What is the purpose and components of RSDL kits?
immediate decontamination of skin and mask at GDA, 3 separate packets of lotion
What type of agents do RSDL remove?
nerve, blister, bio dematoxins
What are the standard methods for ship decontamination?
CMWD, Weathering, firehosing, scrubbing, swabbing
What is considered the best method of active decontamination?
CMWD
What type of decontamination is calcium hypochlorite used?
IPE and ship decon
What is the normal mixing percentage for calcium hypochlorite?
9% solution to 91% seawater
