4-4: Chem & Bio Detection Equipment Flashcards
What are the two indications of detectors?
audible, visible
What are the components of the IPDS-LR?
External Air Sampling Unit (EASU), Detection Unit (DU), Control Display Unit (CDU), Remote Display Unit (RDU)
What agents does IPDS-LR detect?
blood, nerve, blister in vapor form
What are the four modes of operation for the IDPS-LR?
Standby mode (reverses the direction of flow to flush system), Running-sampling mode (normal operating), Confidence test mode (fully functioning), Manual self test mode
Which component of the IPDS-LR controls ship chemical alarm?
RDU
What type of technology does the IPDS-LR use to detect chemical agents and how does it work?
Ion Mobility Spectroscopy (IMS) measures the drift time of particles
Which IPDS-LR maintenance requires an Automated Work Request for Regional Maintenance Center support?
replacing the filter in the DU
What agents does JBPDS detect?
biological airborne agents
What is the main component of the JBPDS?
Biological Agent Warning Sensor (BAWS)
What is the purpose of BAWS?
activates the system when background and sampled air differ significantly
What must the JPDS operator complete before activating system?
loading consumables and selecting mode
What are the different JBPDS modes?
Standard mode, Single sample mode, Periodic mode, Dry collection mode (used when temp below 18 degrees to prevent liquid consumables from freezing
What are the different JBPDS consumables?
sample vials, sample bottles, deionized water bottle, detergent, PBS bottle, carrier box assembly
How long does it takes for the JBPDS to complete a sample identification and what occurs when there is a positive result?
20 mins, chemical alarm will sound
How often should JBPDS be inspected and operationally tested?
every 2 months
What are the components of the DFU?
Hand Held Assays (HHA), sampling kits, Biological Response Kits (BRK)
What does a Dry Filter Unit (DFU) test for?
bio agents
How does the HHA work to identify a bio agent?
antibody/antigen actions to presumptively ID bio agent
min and max DFU run times
min: 15min, max: 12hrs
What is sent to the lab if DFU comes back with presumptive positive result?
tube, used filter, HHA report, Evidence/Property Custody document, Declaration of Dangerous goods if sending thru commercial mail
What can M8 paper detect?
liquid nerve and blister agents
What is the shelf life of M8 paper?
10 years
What is the response time for M8 paper?
20s
What is the response time for M9 paper?
10s
What can M9 paper detect?
liquid and nerve agents
What is the shelf life for M9 paper?
8 years
What is the difference between M8 and M9 detector paper?
M8 can tell you specifically if a G series or V series nerve agent or blister agent is detected, M9 will only change one color (red) if nerve/blister agent is detected
What is the shelf life for the M256A1 and M256A2 detection kits?
6 years
What can M256A1/M256A2 test for?
nerve, blister, and blood agents
How can the sampler detector and M8 paper be used to test for liquid nerve/blister agents?
collect sample using M8, if M8 turns yellow or green then nerve agent may be present, use the right nerve agent ampoules and attach M8 to nerve agent test spot and look for no change in color
What is the purpose of the M256A1 training kit?
To test for nerve, blister, and blood agents on the go (portable)
