Q

What’s the difference between additive and subtractive manufacturing

A
  • Additive manufacturing build things layer by layer from raw material
  • Subtractive manufacturing removes material to create parts.

Q

What is cross-linking

A

Through heat, chemical or light, the polymers are linked together by covalent bonds to make a stronger and more durable shape.

Q

Difference of the quality between SLA and FDM

A
  • SLA using laser beam produces more precise and resolution of the product, smooth surface
  • FDM still has some visible layers by layers on the surface, takes longer time

Q

What is the preprocessing for both printers

A

For FDM try to have a mold or bridge so the layers can be built over and for SLA adjust the xyz plane

Q

Difference in post-processing of the 2 printers

A
  • SLA needs to be washed in an alcohol solvent to remove excess resin on the surface, then curing.
  • FDM doesn’t need to be washed, but instead the support part is removed before being sanded.
