3.7.2 - POPULATIONS Flashcards
dengue is a serious disease that is caused by a virus. the virus is carried from one person to another by a mosquito, A. aegypti.
one method used to try to reduce transmission of this disease is the sterile insect technique (SIT).
this involves releasing large numbers of sterile (infertile) males into the habitat.
explain how using the SIT could reduce transmission of dengue (2)
- compete for resources OR intraspecific competition
- reduces population
what is a gene pool?
all the alleles in a population
what is a population? (2)
a population is a group of organisms of the same species occupying a particular space at a particular time that can interbreed to produce fertile offspring
what is allele frequency? (2)
how often an allele appears in a population
