3.7 Mitosis Flashcards
1
Q
what is mitosis
A
cell division that results in each of the daughter cells having an exact copy of he DNA of the parent cell
2
Q
what is interphase
A
- a period of no division
- replication of DNA
3
Q
what happens during prophase
A
- chromosomes become visible by shortening and thickening
- centrioles move to the poles of the cells
- spindle fibres develop form the centromeres
- nuclear envelop breaks down
- chromosomes drawn to the equator of the cell
4
Q
what happens during metaphase
A
- chromosomes made up of two chromatids are joined by centromeres
- arrange at the equator of the cell
5
Q
what happens during anaphase
A
- centromeres divide into 2
- spindle fibres pull the chromatids apart
- move to opposite poles
6
Q
what happens during telophase and cytokinesis
A
- chromosomes become thinner and smaller
- spindle fibres disintegrate
- nuclear envelope and nucleolus reform
