what is a concussion
an injury caused by a blow to the head in contact sport
what are symptoms of a concussion
headaches
memory loss
weakness and slurred speach
what is a fracture
where a bone is cracked or broken occurs from a blow
what are the 4 types of fracture
closed and compound - hasn’t split and not poking out
simple - barely out of place
stress - tiny cracks in bone
greenstick - incomplete
complete = fully split bone in half
what is a dislocation
bone or joint forced out of normal position
as a result of hard blow
what are symptoms of dislocation
swelling at joint and obvious signs
what are soft tissue injuries
where bone to bone meet movement past normal range can cause pulls or tear in ligaments/tendons
what are types of soft tissue ijuries
repetitive strain injury - tennis elbow
overuse
frequent
what is a sprain
injury to ligament tearing what holds bone to bone
happens by stretching too far past normal ROM
what is a strain
always muscular or tendon related
twist pull or tear to muscle + tendon
what is torn cartilage
cartilage absorbs impact on the bone whilst reducing friction.
damage can happen due to overuse and long term wear
