what is the classification of uveitis ?
anterioir uveitis - iris
with ciliary body involvement - iridocylitis
intermediate uveitis - pars plantis of ciliary body
cyclitis - affecting the middle portion of the eye - the ciliary muscle - which affects the lens shape
or ciliary body
posterioir uveitis - choroidits , chorioretinitis
can be acute or chronic or recurrent
bilateral
what is the aetiology of anterior uveititis / iritis?
idiopathic
HLA-B27 association
infection - HSV , CMG , vzv
iflammatory bowel diseaae- chrons
what are the signs for anterior uveitis/iritis ?
red eye - confused with conjunctivitis photophobia dull pain epiphoria visual impairment
signs ;
synchechia - iris fuses with he lens or the cornea
hypopyon - in the anterior chamber there is inflammatory cells
CHRONIC UVEITIS what ar the symptoms ?
present without symptoms and without classic redness of the eye !!
what is the cause for posterior uveitis ?
idiopathic rheumatological disorder - SLE inflammtory bowel diseae - chrons virus - VZV bacteria - tuberculosis fungi
what are the change in symptoms for posterior uveititis
IT IS PAINLESS unlike the anterior urea , there is no sensory innervation of the choroid
visual impairment
from where does uveal melanoma develop ?
melanocytes of the choroid - choroidal melanoma
uveal melanoma can lead to what pathology ?
retinal detachment - visual field defect
tumor growth in optical axis - loss of vision
how is choroidal melanoma treated?
radiation
surgical excision
risk factors for developing uveal melanoma/ choroidal melanoma ?
choroid nevi
neurofibromatosis
